The African Bar Association has congratulated the Nigerian Bar Association Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) on the occasion of its 2026 Law Week, describing the event’s theme as timely and significant for Nigeria’s democratic development.
In a goodwill message issued by its President, Ibrahim Eddy Mark, the association commended the branch for choosing the theme, “Safeguarding Nigeria’s Democratic Process,” noting that it reflects the urgent responsibility of legal practitioners and stakeholders to defend democracy, uphold constitutionalism, and protect democratic institutions.
The African Bar Association emphasised the critical role of the Nigerian Bar, particularly the Abuja Branch, in promoting justice, accountability, electoral integrity, and good governance across the country.
It noted that lawyers, as custodians of the law and defenders of fundamental rights, occupy a strategic position in ensuring that democratic values are preserved and strengthened for future generations.
The association further praised the leadership and members of the NBA Abuja Branch for consistently providing a platform for robust intellectual engagement on issues of national importance.
According to the statement, the outcomes of the Law Week are expected to contribute meaningfully to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process and advancing democratic ideals across Africa.
The African Bar Association also reaffirmed its commitment, through its Nigeria Forum, to continued collaboration with the NBA Abuja Branch and other stakeholders in advancing the rule of law, human rights, and democratic governance on the continent.
The association wished the Chairman, Executive Committee, and members of the NBA Abuja Branch a successful, impactful, and memorable Law Week celebration.
