The African Bar Association (AFBA) is very concerned about the disturbing reports of the United States Government sanctions on some top Liberian Government officials on corruption charges. While the Bar welcomes this development and will continue to support the Government of the United States in her efforts to deal with corrupt African Government officials, it is worrisome when it involves any of her members especially given the stance of the African Bar Association on corruption and high level graft which continues to undermine Democracy, Human Rights, the rule of Law and Good governance.

We therefore applaud the prompt decision of the Liberian Government to suspend the named officials from office to pave way for full scale investigation.

The African Bar Association as a responsible Professional body which continues to champion the rule of Law and Good Governance in Africa, is eagerly awaiting the findings of the investigation and will not hesitate to wield the big stick against any of its Members found culpable.
