The African Bar Association (AFBA) has extended its heartfelt condolences to Tanzanian President Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, on Monday, September 7, 2026.
In a formal statement signed by AFBA President High Chief Ibrahim Eddy Mark, the association expressed deep sorrow over the loss on behalf of its Governing Council, national bar associations, and the broader legal profession across Africa.
“The loss of a spouse and lifelong companion is an immeasurable personal tragedy,” the statement read. “We recognize that, beyond the high office Your Excellency occupies as President of the United Republic of Tanzania, you are at this solemn moment a bereaved wife, mother, and member of a family mourning the loss of a loved one.”
The association pledged its solidarity with President Hassan, her family, and the people of Tanzania during this time of mourning, offering prayers for strength, courage, and peace for the bereaved family.
