The African Bar Association (AfBA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. In a condolence message addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, AfBA extended heartfelt sympathies to the Nigerian government and people.
AfBA President, High Chief Ibrahim Eddy Mark, described Buhari as a patriot who served Nigeria with dedication and integrity. The association noted his roles as Military Governor of the North East State, Minister of Petroleum, and Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund.
According to AfBA, Buhari’s life was defined by personal sacrifice and national service. His military presidency promoted discipline and public accountability. The group also acknowledged his anti-corruption efforts and his commitment to justice and national unity.
Buhari’s administration focused on rebuilding national infrastructure and elevating Nigeria’s image globally. His leadership, AfBA said, symbolised resilience and principled governance during periods of national transition.
“The legacy of President Buhari will remain in Nigeria’s history as one of strength and devotion to unity,” AfBA stated. The association added that his tenure inspired integrity in both public and private conduct, especially in financial matters.
AfBA recalled Buhari’s consistent adherence to rule of law and national progress. It noted that Nigeria, during his administration, saw a renewed focus on discipline, peace, and responsible leadership.
The association urged Nigerians to reflect on the former leader’s values and allow his legacy to guide future national discourse. “As we mourn this great loss, we pray Almighty Allah grants him Al-Jannah Firdausi and grant Nigeria and his immediate family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” the statement concluded.
