Supreme Court of Kenya To Be Honoured With Award For Judicial Excellence At AfBA Conference

The African Bar Association (AfBA) has announced that the Supreme Court of Kenya will receive its prestigious award for judicial excellence. The recognition comes in acknowledgment of the Court’s exemplary and professional handling of nine petitions from Kenya’s 2022 presidential elections.

In a formal letter to AfBA President, High Chief Ibrahim Eddy-Mark, the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Hon. Justice Martha K. Koome, EGH expressed profound gratitude for the honour. She described the award as a tribute to the Kenyan people, whose trust in the judiciary continues to inspire the delivery of justice.

The Chief Justice noted that the recognition underscores the tireless work of judges, judicial officers, and court staff who safeguard democratic values. According to her, the award for judicial excellence strengthens its resolve to defend democracy, uphold constitutionalism, and advance the rule of law across Africa.

The Supreme Court of Kenya also confirmed its participation in the AfBA Annual Conference, scheduled for 20th October 2025 at Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra, Ghana. Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola, Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya, will represent the Court at the conference and formally receive the award on its behalf.

The AfBA President, Eddy-Mark, had earlier invited the Court to attend the opening ceremony of the continental event. The Annual Conference will bring together leading jurists, lawyers, policymakers, and academics from across Africa to deliberate on pressing issues of law, governance, and justice.

The Supreme Court emphasized that the award is not just recognition of its past work but also a reminder of future responsibility. It pledged to remain steadfast in promoting accountability, transparency, and integrity while serving as a model of judicial excellence on the continent.

This latest honour reaffirms AfBA’s commitment to celebrating institutions and individuals who embody the highest standards of justice in Africa.
