Championing Creativity And Protection In Africa’s Entertainment And Media Industry

Session No. 15 on Intellectual Property and Media, Sports, and Entertainment Law will examine how intellectual property frameworks can drive sustainable growth across Africa’s creative and sports sectors. The session will explore the intersection of law, innovation, and commerce in protecting artists, athletes, and media entrepreneurs from exploitation, while promoting fair compensation and global competitiveness.

Discussions will also address copyright enforcement, digital content ownership, image rights, and the evolving challenges of artificial intelligence in creative industries. Participants will assess how legal reforms, technology, and regional cooperation can strengthen Africa’s creative economy. The session will be chaired by Stanislaus Ajong, with panellists Geraldine Mbah, Doreen Adoma Agyei, Rosemary Nwogbo, and Dr. Emmanuel Olowononi.

Stanislaus Ajong

Stanislaus A. Ajong is a seasoned International Human Rights Lawyer with over 26 years of legal practice across Cameroon and the African continent. He holds an LL.M. in Human Rights Law from the University of Aberdeen, UK, and has been a member of the Cameroon Bar since 1999.He is the Founder and Senior Partner of Security Law Firm, based in Tiko, Cameroon. His legal career includes handling Communications before the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, facilitating legal clinics on employment and education rights in Africa.

Geraldine Mbah

Geraldine Mbah, a graduate of McGeorge School of Law, USA, is a Nigerian legal professional and founder of TechShield Legal, a transformative initiative recognized for advancing legal reforms that support ease of doing business, empower technology startups, and strengthen nonprofit organizations. She has facilitated the establishment of over 200 ventures, providing legal guidance in intellectual property, data privacy, regulatory compliance, business immigration, and investment strategies for local enterprises and international investors. Geraldine works closely with government agencies, embassies, and multinationals, offering expert opinions on complex legal and policy matters. A thought leader, she has spoken at numerous conferences and seminars and serves as a judge and reviewer of professional work in her field, reinforcing her commitment to the profession.

Rosemary Nwogbo

Nwogbo Rosemary Uchechiamaka obtained her Law degree at Kings University College, Accra Ghana. She is a professional lawyer dual qualified to practice law in two jurisdictions, Nigeria and Ghana respectively. She has accumulated over 5 years of legal practice experience in civil and criminal litigation.

Dr Emmanuel Olowononi

Dr. Emmanuel Oluwafemi Olowononi (PhD, LL.M, BL) is a Legal Practitioner; Sports Lawyer; Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria; Deputy Director; Team Lead of Commercial Transactions Law Course and Head of Property Law Practice Department, Nigerian Law School, Abuja, Headquarters. He holds a Ph.D Degree in Law with specialty in football contracts, football disputes and football arbitration. He is the author of the leading book, ‘Sports Law and Practice,’ among many other books. He founded the Institute of Capacity Building, Entertainment and Sports Law Development (ICESLAD), an Institute pacesetting professional capacity building, Entertainment and Sports Law Development in Africa through research, trainings, publications and public lectures.
