Access To Justice In Africa: Examining Foreign Influence And Legal Market Barriers

Session 9 of the African Bar Association Annual Conference in Accra, Ghana, focuses on the theme of “Access to Justice”. The session, chaired by Professor Lennox Hinds, brings together Amina Dauda, Amina Faisi, Sani Ibrahim Koki, and Rita Ali, Kunkuti as panelists.

This discussion will assess access to justice in Africa from two key perspectives. It will examine the effect of declining foreign aid funding for legal aid programs and its implications for justice delivery. It will also explore how World Trade Organization obligations impact market access for African legal practitioners seeking opportunities beyond their national borders.

The session aims to highlight sustainable approaches for ensuring fairness, strengthening local justice systems, and promoting cross-border legal collaboration across the continent.
